Why Upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2019?

QuickBooks Desktop 2019 released at the end of last year.

You may be wondering, why upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop 2019? If you are using an add-in service such as Payroll, you will need to upgrade every 3 years. If you are a Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise 18.0 user, the upgrade process has been simplified; it’s now a two-click process to install QuickBooks Desktop 2019.

Here is a brief review of some new features awaiting you in QuickBooks Desktop 2019.

1. QuickBooks Desktop Mac version

This is available for the first time since 2016. (“YAY!” say the Mac users of the world.)

2. Invoice History

QuickBooks now provides easy-to-view tracking of the invoice process.

QuickBooks tracks when an invoice was created, when and to whom it was emailed, when it's due or past due, when and from whom a payment was received, and when a deposit was made. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade

3. Transfer Credits Between Jobs

For businesses that have multiple jobs set up for customers, applying a credit received on one job to another job was previously a difficult procedure. After the upgrade, this is now a quick and easy process.

Transfer Credits between Jobs QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade
When a credit from one job is selected to apply to a different job, QuickBooks creates a new account called “Account for Credit Transfer.” QuickBooks makes this Other Current Asset account inactive by default, so that nothing can be inadvertently posted to it. The account acts as a clearing account and is simply used for General Journal Entries in order to move credits from one job to another.

4. Link “Write Check” and “Pay Bills”

This upgrade resolves the issue of duplicate expenses and/or unpaid bills that occurs when a “Write Check” action is taken instead of “Pay Bills.”

When writing a check, QuickBooks will prompt you if there is an open bill for that vendor. The default has been changed to take you to the "Pay Bills" screen, so that the payment can be applied directly to the bill. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade

5. Sick and Vacation Pay Tracking

This improvement allows for more transparency for both the employer and employee.

QuickBooks now allows you to track sick and vacation pay for accrual as maximum of "per year" or "at a time." QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade
You can now track Sick and Vacation time for accrual as “Maximum hours at a time” or “Maximum hours for the year.”

QuickBooks will warn you if you try to enter sick/vacation pay which exceeds the employee's available balance. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade

The Employee's pay stub has been updated to show the accrued balance, available balance, and used balance of sick and vacation pay. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade

6. Inactive Inventory Items selection on Inventory Valuation Reports

This change assists you with reconciling the inventory value on your Inventory Valuation Summary Report to the inventory value on your Balance Sheet.

You can choose to show Inactive Inventory Items on the Inventory Valuation Summary. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade
You can choose to Show Inactive Inventory Items, which may have been marked as inactive before they had been cleared out or adjusted to zero quantity and $0 asset value.

7. Improved IIF Imports

Before the upgrade, QuickBooks would notify you of Import errors, but it was difficult to determine what the errors were and how to fix them.

Quickbooks shows the results of an import. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade
You can now review the results of the import.
Separate file is created with records that did not import. QuickBooks Desktop 2019 upgrade
A separate IIF file is created of the records that were not successfully imported. You can update the records in this file and then re-import them.
